Leeds
Area Community Safety, part of the Safer Leeds Partnership, runs a
number of action programmes across the city to raise public awareness
and help reduce crime rates in Leeds.
Much
of their work centres on young people and increasingly they are
working with the city’s schools as a platform to try and instil
common sense values and social responsibility at a young age.
Create
Initially
Totality GCS was approached to provide the printing for a document aimed
at 50,000 pupils and their parents at High Schools.
The
timescale for the production of the booklet was tight, however as
part of the re-print process, we took a broader look at the brief and
provided an alternative approach for the Police to consider, one
which we felt would connect more directly with a young audience.
We
produced a pitch that was simple and punchy, using the concept ‘High
School Bulletin’ (a play on the hit teen film ‘High School
Musical’) along with bold graphics targeted appropriately at young
teenagers.
The
Police were impressed with our initiative and visual style and as a
result, we were tasked with producing the second issue from start to
finish.
Deliver
The
result has been an ongoing series of literature using a young, urban graphic design that connects directly with the
target audience and provides a more appealing framework for
communicating the serious messages contained within the text.
Feedback from the schools has been very positive, which had added to
the overall credibility of the programme.
